I attended elementary school in the 1940's and 1950's, and yeah I'm that old. . . At that time we had an influx of immigrants from Eastern Europe after the Second World War. Some of them had school age children who survived, many of their children were victims of the war or the Holocaust. They were referred to as DP's, or Displaced Persons. Poor, proud and hard working, they rarely sought a handout, and they almost never looked back to their country of birth. To all of our 'we have a right' illegal aliens, (DP's Disorderly Persons), note the operative word aliens, you don't have any rights or privileges to send your children to our public schools. Legally immigrated children during the time I attend public school were required to learn English (what a concept) before being permitted enrollment into the school systems. We did not hold the majority back for the minority, but I'm forgetting you're special. Immigrants from Europe came here for the freedom and opportunities that this country afforded, especially the opportunity of educating their children, which was in many European countries a luxury for the upper class. Statistically Mexican, Central and South American immigrants have the lowest percentage of children seeking college educations, (I believe it is below 12%), whereas the opposite is true of those immigrating from Europe, the middle and far east. So when it comes to celebrating any national holiday, remember amigos, this is the US, not the place from whence you came. I don't remember the last time I saw a group of Polish immigrant kids wearing their 'colors', waving their homeland flag, and demanding their rights, they're generally too busy studying or working at a skilled trade. . . Studying and working a skilled trade, what an concept; you might want to look into that. The next time the 5th of May pops around, you have one of several choices; first, do your 'national' celebrating at home or, drag your sorry asses to the nearest saloon and get hammered like the rest of us Gringos. . . Hell we don't give a damn about the real reason, we're here for the booze, beer, grub and the broads. Shape up, become an American or drag your sorry asses back across the border and stop feeding us your B-S nationalism. . . As Jack Nickleson said in 'As Good as it Gets', "we're up to here with crazy." Enough, is enough. I attended elementary school in the 1940′s and 1950′s, and yeah I’m that old. . .
