You decide:

“Fathom the hypocrisy of a Government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured, but not everyone must prove they are a citizen.”

I wish I knew who coined this, because it strikes a chord in my soul and I would like to give them credit.

Definition of a Socialist (spoken to the tune of “You Might Be A Redneck”) http://onemansview.us/humor/definition-of-a-socialist-spoken-to-the-tune-of-you-might-be-a-redneck/ http://onemansview.us/humor/definition-of-a-socialist-spoken-to-the-tune-of-you-might-be-a-redneck/#comments Wed, 06 Apr 2011 19:30:13 +0000 Chuck http://onemansview.us/?p=1014

OK… I can’t take credit for this. Credit goes to Wayne Allyn Root – The Washington Times 6:17 p.m., Monday, April 4, 2011 MugshotIllustration. Wayne Allyn Root is a former Libertarian vice-presidential nominee and author of “The Conscience of a Libertarian: Empowering the Citizen Revolution with God, Guns, Gold, Gambling & Tax Cuts” (Wiley, 2009). He writes at RootforAmerica.com.

Socialist Obama by Alexander Hunter for The Washington Times: “I ought to know. I was Mr. Obama’s college classmate at Columbia University Class of ’83. Our college was dominated by socialists and Marxists who hated capitalism and America.” Let’s look at the facts up close and personal – Jeff Foxworthy style. Mr. Foxworthy leaves no doubt as to “who might be a redneck.” Let me leave no doubt that “Obama might be a socialist.”

  • If you believe it’s greedy for American taxpayers to want to keep more of their own money, but not greedy to demand that government confiscate other people’s money and redistribute it to those who didn’t earn it, you might be a socialist.
  • If you don’t understand (or care) that babies scream and cry the moment they are born because they are already heavily in debt and facing a bleak future and lower quality of life, you might be a socialist.
  • If the only thing you, your Cabinet members and czars know about business is from books read at Harvard Law School, written by Karl Marx, you might be a socialist.
  • If you want to allocate hundreds of millions to the Internal Revenue Service to go after tax cheats when your administration is filled with tax cheats, including the guy in charge of America’s taxes (Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner), you might be a socialist.
  • If you think the “White House Party Crashers” are terrible people because they came to a state dinner without an invitation, but you want to give instant citizenship to 12 million uninvited “illegal aliens” who crashed our border, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think anyone who doesn’t read the New York Times is dumb and ignorant, but think it’s OK for Congress to pass a 2,000-page health care bill without reading it, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think Times’ columnist Paul Krugman deserves a Nobel Prize for economics and you deserve a Nobel Peace Prize even though neither of you created a job or ended a war, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think it’s OK to meet with dictators, bullies, tyrants and terrorist sympathizers without preconditions, but have no interest in meeting with conservatives in Congress, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think it’s OK to give constitutional rights to terrorists, but not to the bondholders, shareholders and secured creditors of GM and Chrysler when you stole the company from them and awarded it to the unions that bankrupted them, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think Raul Castro, the leader of communist Cuba, in firing 500,000 government employees by telling them “government can no longer employ or take care of everyone” isn’t a hint that perhaps America needs to reduce our obscene number of government employees, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think George W. Bush’s spending was an embarrassment, a travesty and a sin, but you have no problem increasing the national debt more in one day than the entire 2007 budget deficit, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar of “The View” represent the moderate wing of the Democratic Party, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think it was OK for Nancy Pelosi to pass Obamacare so she could benefit from the special clause on Page 1,890 that gives free facelifts to public officials, you might be a socialist (just kidding!).
  • If you want to convert America to a “green economy” to create jobs, after Spain has proven the green economy destroys three times as many jobs as it creates and leads to 20 percent unemployment, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think denying someone a job, government contract or entry to college because of the color of their skin is immoral and criminal, but giving someone a job, government contract or college admission because of a different color of their skin is “social justice”, you might be a socialist.
  • If you want to abandon capitalism and put the economy under the control of government bureaucrats, even though virtually every city, county, state and federal department run by these same bureaucrats is insolvent and bankrupt, you might be a socialist.
  • If you favor taxpayer bailouts of companies who give you campaign contributions and hide it by refusing to disclose who got the money or how much, and you demand your cronies in Congress pass the 1,000-plus page bailout bill without reading it, you might be a socialist.
  • If you think spending an extra trillion dollars will save money on health care and reduce the deficit, you might be a socialist (and possibly learned math in public school).
  • If your solution to Medicare driving the country into bankruptcy is expanding it to everyone with Obamacare, you might be a socialist.  If want to lower the cost of health care but left out tort reform, you might be a socialist lawyer.
  • If you’re a Columbia University professor and gave a student named Barack Obama an A in economics, you are definitely a socialist (and a moron – addition and emphasis mine).
  • And finally, in the eighth year of the Obama presidency, if Bangladesh is hosting “Aid America” concerts or you’re standing in line for toilet paper, you have a socialist president.

It’s time to stand up and loudly call a socialist… a socialist!

Of course, that’s just One Man’s View.  YMMV, and you’re welcome to comment here.

Fire Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid! http://onemansview.us/government/political/fire-nancy-pelosi-and-harry-reid/ http://onemansview.us/government/political/fire-nancy-pelosi-and-harry-reid/#comments Tue, 21 Sep 2010 17:20:26 +0000 Chuck http://onemansview.us/?p=877

It has been awhile since I’ve written anything. I’m not entirely sure why, except I’ve started up a new business, and that has taken the lion’s share of my time of late.  I guess I was also a bit burned out… which I suppose is precisely what the followers of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” want.

That is not to say I haven’t been listening to all the political pundits on both sides of the aisle.  The discussions have been interesting in some cases, and laughable in others.  However, we’re now 6 short weeks away from the mid-term elections, and we have some important decisions to make as the electorate.

Since reading Robert Heinlein’s “Time Enough for Love” back in the 70s, I have been a subscriber to the “Lazarus Long School of Politics”.  His mantra was “Always vote, as there may not necessarily be somebody you want to put in office, but there is almost always somebody you want to keep out“.  Yes… a lesser of two evils policy.  That is pretty much where we as a nation find ourselves today.  Do we want more of the same BS we’ve been getting for years (yes… even going back to the days when Republicans had control of Congress), or are we really ready, as a people, to take responsibility for those we put in office?

I am sure you have all heard the new GOP catch-phrase “Fire Nancy Pelosi”.  After all, RNC leader Michael Steele is cruising all over the country in a large bus touting exactly that.  I am not just climbing on the GOP bandwagon by recommending we get rid of Pelosi and Reid.  We must remove them from their positions of power in Congress before they drag this great nation even further into the crapper.  The Republicans must take control of at least one of the Houses of Congress in order to restore something approaching a balance of power, if for no other reason than to keep the Marxist sitting in the White House from causing any more harm than he already has.

I remind you that I am not a run-of-the-mill Republican.  I am a fiscal conservative with a social conscience… and a borderline libertarian.  That said, I am not an anarchist, as many libertarians are accused of being.  However, since we live under a two party system, I tend to lean toward the Republican perspective, since the Democratic (read that as far left liberal) point of view turns my stomach.

So, how do we fire Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid (and others of their radical, far left ilk)?  Simple:  As hard as it may be for some of you to do, it is imperative that you vote a straight Republican ticket in the upcoming elections.  The Republican you vote for may be a far right conservative, or a more moderate Tea Party candidate.  IT DOES NOT MATTER!! Vote for them, as this is the only way a balance of power will be restored in the Capitol.

This is the only way we will be able to rid ourselves of ObamaCare, Amnesty for all Illegal Immigrants, Cap & Tax, Card Check, The Fairness Doctrine, Redistribution of Wealth, Government takeover of publicly held corporations (i.e., GM, Chrysler, et. al.)… and all the other radical, socialist Big Government platforms the current administration wants to ram down our throats.  We won’t have another chance until 2012, and I fear that, if we wait until then, it will be too late.

Remember, our current financial mess was caused by the Government, due to their mandate that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac back loans made to people who never had any hope of repaying them.  This Recession (which certain economists claim is over… but I don’t buy it for a moment), was not caused by the greed on Wall St.  It was all about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac peddling bad paper (i.e., Mortgage Backed Securities), and covering it up… and they’re still doing it!

We recently bought a new house (well, not new… it’s 7 years old) in California’s Temecula Valley.  While house hunting, we came across a lovely home that was priced about 15% higher than comparable homes in the area.  In other words, this home would not appraise for close to the asking price.  It was a Fannie Mae owned home, and their terms were:  Pay their asking price, get your loan through them and they would only ask for 3% down, and would not require an appraisal! That was in April of this year!  So, this Government-sponsored organization hasn’t changed the way they do business one iota.  But I digress.

Take a look around you.  How many truly happy people do you see/know?  If you’re anything like me, you don’t see very many.  Could it be they are victims of the “Yes We Can” and “Change We Can Believe In” LIES?

Do yourself, and them, a favor this November:  Fire Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid by voting for the person with the big R by their name on the ballot.

Of course, this is just One Man’s View.  As always, we welcome your comments.

ORANGE COUNTY CALIFORNIA NEWSPAPER – New Immigrants

This is a very good letter to the editor.  The author made some good points.  For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions.  This lady made the argument pretty simple.  This submission was NOT printed in the Orange County Register… my home newspaper.  Shame on them!

Newspapers simply won’t publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which do not agree with the philosophy they’re pushing on the public.  This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published.  So, I decided to help her and publish it here.

From: “David LaBonte”

My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the O.C. Register which, of course, was not printed. S o, I decided to “print” it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined.  Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:

Dear Editor:

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants.  Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren’t being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today’s American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented.  Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground.  They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them.  No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them.  All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France and Japan.  None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any  thought about what country their parents had come from.  They were Americans fighting Hitler, Tojo Mussolini and the Emperor of  Japan  They were defending the United States of America as one people.

When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country’s flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here.  These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges.  Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country.  I’m sorry, that’s not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900′s deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill.  I wouldn’t start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

Rosemary LaBonte

I sincerely hope this letter gets read by millions of people all across the nation!!  Please spread it around.

This is just One Man’s View.  As always, your comments are welcome.

Thoughts On Cinco de Mayo http://onemansview.us/uncategorized/thoughts-on-cinco-de-mayo/ http://onemansview.us/uncategorized/thoughts-on-cinco-de-mayo/#comments Mon, 10 May 2010 15:07:11 +0000 Chuck http://onemansview.us/?p=717

I have been thinking lately about the episode at a Morgan Hill, California high school, where 5 students were informally suspended for wearing shirts depicting the American flag on Cinco de Mayo. For the uninitiated, Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s surprise victory over French forces at the obscure Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is celebrated primarily in the Mexican state of Puebla and in the United States.

Cinco de Mayo Incident

While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance and celebration nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed nationwide in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.  Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day, the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.

I have celebrated Cinco de Mayo myself, as have many other Americans.  For most Anglos, it’s an excuse to go out, eat Mexican food and consume massive quantities of Mexican beer and margaritas.  It’s not that much different than St. Patrick’s Day… also celebrated here in the U.S, but seldom in Ireland.

Much was made in the conservative media of the students’ suspension, and with good reason.  Why should American citizens be punished for celebrating their national pride, no matter what day they choose to do it?  As usual, the looney, liberal lamestream media gave the incident little to no coverage.

According to one of the student’s parents, the five teens were sitting at a table outside Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, CA, last Wednesday morning when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two of them to remove their American flag bandannas.   The boys complied, but were still asked to accompany Rodriguez to the principal’s office.

The five students were then told they must turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home, though it would not be considered a suspension.  Rodriguez told the students he did not want any fights to break out between Mexican-American students celebrating their heritage and those wearing American flags.  This makes one wonder if Mr. Rodriguez is unable to control his students, essentially making him unfit for his job.  Mr. Rodriguez, sometimes the easiest path (the one you took, singling out just those 5 students) isn’t the right path.  The right path would have been to have all students remove any garb supporting any type of national pride, be it Mexican or American.

The Morgan Hill Times reported more than 100 students were spotted wearing the colors of the Mexican flag – red, white and green – as they left school, including many who had the flag painted on their faces or arms. So, here we have 5 students who are asked to remove the celebratory garb, but few of those celebrating Cinco de Mayo are asked to do the same. Was this fair? Hardly. More importantly, was it constitutional? I think not, but that’s for the courts to decide… which I am sure they will have an opportunity to do.

Question:  Why do Mexican-Americans feel the need to show their “national pride” for Mexico? Do these people show the same national pride for the United States on the 4th of July? Personally, I feel a person of Mexican descent born in the United States (i.e., a citizen) is an American… not Mexican-American.  You might be of Mexican heritage, but you are not Mexican… YOU ARE AN AMERICAN! Get with the program, support your country or get the hell out and take the illegals with you!

I can’t wait for the response to this… complete with the threats, name calling and racist/bigot label. Go ahead… give it your best shot.  What you don’t know is I am probably the least racist person you will ever meet, though I am a firm believer in the rule of law.  Having grown up in San Jose, CA back in the 50s/60s, I learned to speak conversational Spanish from my classmates, whose families were documented (operative word) farm workers in the area.  Today, I prefer to speak Spanish where it is the native language (i.e., Latin/South America, Puerto Rico, etc.).  It infuriates me to have to speak Spanish in order to communicate with an illegal alien here in my own backyard.

I learned early on in my travels that having the ability to speak to the locals in their native tongue goes a long way toward cementing good relations.  They appreciate the effort you have made, you tend to get better service in restaurants and hotels and are more likely to get help when you need it.  Those who have entered the U.S. illegally could take a lesson from this.  If you want to come here, and you absolutely cannot wait to get a visa (or even a passport), take the time to learn English… and learn it well, before you come.  You’re more likely to be accepted (and less likely to be looked down upon or ratted out to ICE) if you can show you’ve made the effort to assimilate into our culture.

As I’ve stated all along… it’s not about race.  It’s about good manners, the law and your (in)ability to show respect for it.

This is just One Man’s View.  As always, your comments are welcome.

Arizona Immigration Reform Law SB 1070 http://onemansview.us/government/immigration/arizona-immigration-reform-law-sb-1070/ http://onemansview.us/government/immigration/arizona-immigration-reform-law-sb-1070/#comments Thu, 29 Apr 2010 16:19:55 +0000 Chuck http://onemansview.us/?p=681

I quote the Constitution of the United States:

Article IV, Section 4:  The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence [emphasis added].

I don’t believe anybody can deny the Federal Government has failed miserably in their obligation to protect the states from invasion (i.e., illegal immigration) and domestic violence (i.e., the kidnappings, murders and other violence associated with the drug cartels in and around the Arizona/Mexican border).  Depending on your source, there are between 10-12 million illegal immigrants currently in the United States… perhaps even more.  That represents approximately 3.25% of the nation’s total population.  It is estimated that 1 in 7 (that’s 14.28% for the arithmetically challenged) AZ residents are there illegally.  If that doesn’t qualify as an invasion, I don’t know what does.

  • Fact:  Entering the United States illegally is a crime.
  • Fact:  Federal law dictates that legal immigrants are to carry their immigration documents on their person at all times
  • Fact:  65%+ of all illegal immigrants are Mexican, and 99% of all illegal immigrants or of Latin American origin (Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, etc.)
  • Fact:  Law Enforcement Officers at all levels in the United States are obligated to “protect the lives, defend civil liberties, secure the safety of fellow citizens”

It amazes me how, when the State of Arizona takes action to attempt to succeed where the Federal Government has repeatedly failed, by essentially mirroring Federal Law, so many in this country raise such a stink about what might happen.  Does anybody really think the Arizona Dept. of Public Safety or local law enforcement is going to go out of their way to harass people just because they happen to be Hispanic?  Approximately 30% of AZ’s population is of Hispanic origin.  Do you really think they have time to go after all 1.8 million persons of Hispanic origin in the state?

Puhleeeze!  To state that going after the perpetrators of these crimes is racial profiling is absurd.  It’s an unfortunate fact that the majority drug running, kidnapping and illegal immigration happening in Arizona is done by Hispanics.  It is what it is.  I don’t recall ever hearing anybody claiming the Border Patrol’s patrolling the southern border looking for illegal immigrants (who are mostly Hispanic) is racial profiling, do you?

It is important to remember why the law was enacted:  The Feds aren’t getting the job done. For Representative to Congress Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) to call for industries from manufacturing to tourism to boycott his own state is ludicrous… especially in these tough economic times.  “There has to be an embarrassment sanction, that’s part of it,” said Grijalva. “And there as to be an economic sanction. That’s part of it.”  Remember, this is from a guy who, as a representative to Congress, is partially responsible for the problem!  The citizens of AZ should remember this idiot’s comments in November, and toss him out of office.

The new AZ law states:

20      B.  FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT [emphasis added] MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY
21 OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS
22 STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS
23 UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE,
24 WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE
25 PERSON’S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
26 PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).

34     J.   THIS SECTION SHALL BE IMPLEMENTED IN A MANNER CONSISTENT WITH
35 FEDERAL LAWS REGULATING IMMIGRATION, PROTECTING THE CIVIL RIGHTS OF ALL
36 PERSONS AND RESPECTING THE PRIVILEGES AND IMMUNITIES OF UNITED STATES
37 CITIZENS.

It should be clear to any reasonable person that the intent of the AZ law is to conform to existing Federal Law, and to ensure nobody’s rights are violated.  The political grandstanding of people like Senator Lindsey Graham is a joke.  U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder’s statement that “the new law could be abused by authorities, and that the Justice Department and Homeland Security would be gearing up for an official review of the law to see how it measures up against the U.S. constitution” goes past absurdity into the realm of ridiculous.  If DoJ and DHS would get off their fat asses and do their jobs, AZ wouldn’t have had to do what they did.  Who gives a Tinker’s Damn about what could happen.  A lot of things could happen:  You could be hit by a truck today.  I could be struck by lightning.  I rest my case on that topic.

We need to give the citizens of the State of Arizona the benefit of the doubt, and let them see if they be successful where the Feds have failed.

Of course, this is just One Man’s View.  Your comments are, as always, most welcome.
